Starting a Business in Glendora

Starting a business is an exciting yet challenging journey. The City of Glendora is here to support you. It's important to understand the local, state, and federal regulations that affect your venture. Below, you'll find key considerations to guide you. By grasping these essentials, you’ll be better equipped to navigate your path to success!

Step 1. Develop a Business Plan

In addition to knowing the product you will sell or the service you will provide, you will want to have a marketing plan, an organizational plan and a financial plan. Having this plan from the start, can be the difference between a struggling and a successful business. Check out the business plan overview from the Small Business Administration (SBA)

Step 2. Determine Business Structure

Compare the legal and tax implications for each business structure. Choose from sole proprietorship, partnership, limited partnership, corporation (S or C) or limited liability company (LLC)

Step 3. Financing Consideration

Potential financing options include SBA loans, microloans, business line of credit, credit unions, crowdfunding, and investors. Reach out to SBA to find out more information.

Step 4. Establish and Register Your Business Name

Check to see if your desired business name is available and reserve it through the California Secretary of State. If you are not operating under your own name you need to register your business as a Fictitious Business Name (DBA) with Office of County Clerk

Office of the County Clerk, Registrar-Recorder
12440 Imperial Highway, Norwalk CA 90650
(562) 462-2177

Step 5. Select a Business Location

To ensure that your business will receive zoning clearance or if you plan on changing or installing a new sign you will need to contact the Planning Division.

If you need to make a physical change to your place of business, you will need to contact the Building Division to determine if any permits will be required.
