Tap Card & Bus Pass

What is a TAP Card?

A Transit Access Pass or "TAP" card is a reusable plastic card that can hold all of your transit fare products! You can load Stored Value (money) and/or a variety of passes that allow you to travel on Metro, Foothill Transit and 22 other transit agencies across the region! Much easier and faster than cash; just load the type of fare you need and tap it each time you board.

Go Metro

Glendora to Montclair

The Foothill Gold Line from Glendora to Montclair is a 12.3-mile extension of the Metro A Line light rail system (renamed the A Line as of June 2023). The project will add new stations in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, Pomona, Claremont and Montclair - and will be built in phases. Once completed to Montclair, the Foothill Gold Line will connect the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire to Los Angeles and Long Beach.

The project broke ground in December 2017 and has completed two of three contracts. In October 2019, the Construction Authority initiated the main design-build contract with Kiewit-Parsons, a Joint Venture (KPJV) to build the fully funded 9.1-mile Glendora to Pomona project segment. Major construction started in July 2020 and is now 80% complete. The project remains on budget and on time for an early-January 2025 completion. Metro determines when passenger service begins.

What to Expect

Once major construction began in 2020. The community can expect temporary construction impacts, including extended street closures at street crossings, short-term land closures, noise from construction vehicles during construction hours, and other related impacts.

The segment from Pomona to Montclair is not yet funded. The Construction Authority is currently seeking the final funding needed to complete the full project to Claremont and Montclair.

Community notifications will be provided.

Permanent Changes Include:

  • A new station and parking facility
  • Safety enhancements at all street crossings (raised medians, red curbing, and turn restrictions with 100 feet of the rail corridor at all street crossings)
  • New fencing and walls to secure the rail corridor and provide noise protection where required
  • Relocation of freight/Metrolink tracks closer to edge of corridor to make room for the two light rail tracks
  • New overhead lines to power the Gold Line system
  • Addition of more than 200 train trips in the corridor per day

Glendora Gold Line Designs and Studies

Story of the Design | Foothill/Grand Bridge

The expansion of the Santa Fe Railway from Chicago to Los Angeles in the late 1800's brought unprecedented population growth along the train route and transformed California's economy. With the establishment of the transcontinental railroad, citrus growers along the rail corridor from Glendora to Claremont were able to distribute their fruit to the rest of the country and citrus quickly became the economic base for the region.

The citrus boom spurred California's "second" Gold Rush—only the new gold was orange. Celebrating this citrus heritage in the region is the primary design driver that influenced the alignment motifs developed for the Foothill Gold Line Glendora to Montclair extension. The bridge columns and abutments for the Gold Line bridges in Glendora have been designed with patterns influenced by the circular shapes of citrus fruit framed by leaves with the retaining wall patterns inspired by the pith of the fruit.
